SUMMER 2025

NEW MUSIC!

THE ALBUM
My new long player, Fade Away Blue, drops on August 22 on Puzzle Tree/Missing Piece Records. The album features ten original songs brought to life in the studio by Grammy-winning producer Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann), executive producer Elaine Summers and a stellar cast of A-list musicians. For more, visit my ABOUT page.

THE LEAD TRACK
Side one opens with “You Called Me Kid,” a song of love and gratitude dedicated to my late adoptive parents. “Kid” was released back in June. Recently, it was serviced to radio and landed in the #10 spot on the CDX AAA “Surging and Emerging” chart. And this week it jumped to #5, just ahead of my publishing roster mate, Jason Isbell.

THE LATEST SINGLE
”Song for Barbara Ann” was released on July 24. The song addresses the flipside of the adoption coin. It speaks to the ambiguous grief I experienced when I searched for my birth mother only to learn she had died just months earlier.

EAST COAST IN SEPTEMBER
Elaine Summers and I are heading East for a handful of dates in September. In anticipation of the Fall reissue of my debut, Necktie Second, we’ll be leaning heavily on cuts from that old record. We will also dig deep into Fade Away Blue.

Not since touring with Matthew Sweet and Shawn Mullins as The Thorns in 2003 have I played in that neck of the woods. The Necktie Second tour in 1994 began with a residency of the Northeast. I have many fond memories of that seven-week run. Here is where we’ll be this time around.

PODCASTS!

I’ve recorded several podcast interviews of late. It was only fitting that the first episode to drop would be A Fresh Face in Hell hosted by my old chum, Jonathan Evison. We were neighbors growing up, so we had a lot of ground to cover, beginning with our days hot boxing figs. (You’ll have to listen to find out what the hell that’s about.)

We discuss our band, March of Crimes, the Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers of the Seattle punk scene. M.O.C. secured its place as a footnote in rock history by including tenures from one somewhat successful singer-songwriter (me) and not one but two Rock & Roll Hall of Famers (Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard). Tracing my musical life and career, Jon asked some deep questions. This is not your average “who are your musical influences” interview.

Jon left music and never looked back. He has gone on to enjoy a fruitful career as an award-winning best-selling author. Critics have compared his work to Charles Dickens, J.D. Salinger, and John Irving. But don’t take their word for it. Take it from me… he’s an amazingly gifted writer. And he’s got the awards to show for it.

Check out the episode HERE.
